Declutter Your iPhone: The Organizing Project You’re Probably Forgetting

sorry this post doesn’t apply to Android users (no judgement or offense)
When most people think about decluttering, they picture overflowing closets, junk drawers, or packed garages.
But what about your phone?
If your iPhone has pages of apps you haven’t opened in months (or years), it’s time for a quick digital decluttering session. Just like physical clutter, digital clutter can make it harder to find what you actually use—and it might even be costing you money.
Step 1: See Which Apps Are Taking Up Space
On your iPhone, go to:
Settings → General → iPhone Storage
After a few seconds, your phone will load a list of every app installed on your device. You’ll see:
How much storage each app uses
The last time you used many of your apps (if available)
Recommendations for freeing up space
You may be surprised to find apps you completely forgot existed! Ask yourself:
Have I used this in the last six months?
Would I download it again today?
Am I keeping it “just in case”?
If the answer is no, it’s probably safe to delete.
Step 2: Check Your App Subscriptions
This step can save you real money.
Many apps offer free trials that quietly turn into monthly or yearly subscriptions. It’s surprisingly common to pay for an app you only used once.
To review your subscriptions:
Settings → Tap your name (Apple ID) → Subscriptions
Take a few minutes to review every active subscription.
You might discover you’re still paying for:
Photo editing apps
Workout programs
Meditation apps
Games
Meal planners
Streaming services
Productivity apps
Cancel anything you no longer use. Even a few $4.99 subscriptions can add up to hundreds of dollars each year.
Step 3: Let Apple Help (Optional)
If you’re short on storage but aren’t ready to permanently delete apps, Apple offers a feature called Offload Unused Apps. It automatically removes apps you rarely use while keeping your documents and data, so you can reinstall them later without starting over. You can find this option under:
Settings → Apps → App Store → Offload Unused Apps
It’s a great compromise if you’re not quite ready to let go. (Apple Support Community)
Digital Clutter Is Still Clutter
An organized phone means:
Less scrolling
Easier navigation
More storage
Fewer distractions
Less money wasted on forgotten subscriptions
Just like your home, your digital spaces deserve an occasional reset.
Totally Organized Tip
Set a reminder every January and July to spend 15 minutes reviewing your apps and subscriptions. A quick digital decluttering session twice a year can keep your phone organized and your wallet a little happier.
Because organization isn’t just about your home—it’s about making every part of your life a little simpler.
